VENEH

VENEH, is a poetic description of transition. The film is set in a typical Karelian village of the early 20th century. In the story a young girl becomes a bride and prepares to leave home. Veneh can been seen as developing the world's first documentary film Häidenvietto Karjalan Runomailla, shot in the 1920s, to an artistic and emotional narrative. It also breathes life into the Karelian landscape familiar from I.K Inha's iconic photos. Veneh is the first film ever made in the Karelian language.

Veneh had its premiere in 2016, after which it has been performed in example on Rossija 1 TV channel in Russia, Kaustinen Chamber Music Week, Helsinki Music Hall at the Touko Taiga Festival, Oulu Film Center, Sugri Fest Festival, OAF Festival under Helsinki Festival and numerous other festivals and events around Finland such as Savonlinna Kulttuurikellari, Aalto University Department of Film, Kino Sõprus Tallinn, Elektriteater Tarto and Teatteri Avoimet Ovet Helsinki. In addition, the film has also been shown at events in France and Japan. Veneh won the best Finnish short film award at the Scandinavian International Film Festival in 2017.
